St Ommena Irini - The Nun Who Walked Into A President's Bedroom

SEP 13, 202619 MIN

Description

In the 1940s, a fourteen-year-old girl in Upper Egypt is carried in spirit to a convent she's never seen, led there by a soldier who's been dead for over a thousand years. She grows up to become Ommena Irini, Abbess of the Convent of Abu Seifein. She rebuilds a failing community using a manuscript that seemed to appear out of nowhere, comforts a grieving nation after a bus tragedy with a vision of glory, and, by her own account, walks straight into the bedroom of the President of Egypt to save her convent's walls from demolition. This episode traces her life from a praying child in Girga to one of the most quietly influential women in the modern Coptic Church, built on one belief: that words of love do more than words of blame ever will. 🎧 For the best experience, listen with headphones to fully immerse yourself in the music and sound design. 🤝 If this episode moved you, share it with someone who needs to hear it. ☕ Support the podcast: buymeacoffee.com/Voicesofthesaints This episode draws on Ommena Irini's own recorded testimony, the historical records of the Convent of St. Philopateer Mercurius (Abu Seifein), and other Coptic community accounts of her life.
