Description
Sick (2026) - Fantastic Fest, Taboo Subjects & The Things We Don't Want to Talk About
What happens when a horror film takes a subject we're deeply uncomfortable discussing and refuses to give us an easy way out?
In this episode, I’m joined by Emily to discuss Agata Trzebuchowska’s Sick (2026), the Polish-language film that we had the opportunity to see as part of our remote coverage of Fantastic Fest 2026. We go considerably deeper than our initial festival reaction, unpacking the film’s story, its disturbing subject matter, and the ways it confronts some genuinely uncomfortable ideas about adolescence, sexuality, vulnerability, and the boundaries of what we’re willing to discuss.
This is a spoiler-heavy episode, so if you haven't seen Sick yet, consider this your warning.
We talk about what the film is actually trying to say, how its taboo subject matter affects the way we experience its characters, and whether confronting something uncomfortable is enough on its own—or whether a film needs to offer us something more to make that discomfort meaningful.
If Sick eventually makes its way to a wider audience, this is a conversation worth having after you've seen it.
