Description

I'M BACK! The great falls of Niagara were North America's first famous travel attraction, drawing daredevils and trapping tourists for generations. The collective water of the Great Lakes pour over the Niagara escarpment in thunderous, glorious cascades. But before Niagara Falls became the attraction it is now, to the east, upstate New York birthed one of the more remarkable empires in North American history: the Haudenosaunee (or Iroquois) Confederacy. Five Nations (and now Six) united in a lasting alliance fought against their neighbors and Europeans, in search of beaver pelts and a solution to disease and colonization. We'll talk about Love Canal, the Peacemaker, and more, plus Buffalo Wings! Photograph by Michael A. Orlando
