110: What If Marriage Is the Lie We Were Sold?

What if marriage isn't the prize? What if some of what we've been taught about love, commitment, family, and what makes a woman's life complete deserves to be questioned? I know. I went there. After spending most of my life believing marriage was something I wanted, I finally asked myself a question I had been avoiding: What's actually in it for me? And once I started pulling that thread, a whole lot of things started unraveling. What if the life we've been taught to want isn't necessarily the life we would choose for ourselves? What if being single isn't the space between relationships? What if a woman without a husband isn't missing anything? And what if changing your mind about something you once deeply believed isn't a failure of your values - but evidence that you're finally deciding which values are actually yours? I'm not here to convince you that marriage is wrong. I'm asking something far more uncomfortable: Have you ever questioned why you believe it's right? Because if something is truly one of your values, questioning it won't destroy it. And if questioning it does? Maybe it was never yours to begin with. You don't have to come to the same conclusion I did. But you do get to ask the questions. Your life belongs to you.
