Older programs instead followed step-by-step instructions written by people. Harold’s key point is that AI doesn’t think and isn’t a person. It’s a computer program that humans built. Its hunger for data also explains why so many data centers are being built.  The Good Health and safety: Smartwatches track your heart rate and activity. After Harold fell on ice, his watch asked whether he wanted to call 911. Features like this make living alone safer. Research: AI lets scientists work through data and past studies much faster. Everyday help: Comparing restaurants, finding the oil dipstick on the Jeep, and brushing up on knitting stitches. Two caveats: AI can be wrong, and clearer questions get better answers. The Bad Scams aimed at seniors: Cloned voices are used in robocalls and the “grandparent scam.” The suggested defense is a family safe word. Fake content: A made-up YouTube video of a locomotive restoration, and a fake clip of Prince and Miles Davis on Johnny Carson. The advice: “trust but verify.” The Ugly Fear of AI is compared to early fears about electricity. Caution makes sense, but panic doesn’t. Profit and competition won’t slow AI companies down, so lawmakers need to set limits. The hosts compare this to nuclear arms agreements. Other worries: lost jobs, and the energy and water data centers use. Takeaway: Older adults shouldn’t tune AI out just because they may not see where it ends up. They should understand it, hold legislators accountable, and think about future generations.
