Why was America's Greatest Theologian Fired from his Church? Matthew Everhard on Jonathan Edwards

Was Jonathan Edwards one of the greatest theologians America ever produced, and why did the church he served for more than two decades eventually dismiss him?In this episode, I sit down with Jonathan Edwards scholar Matthew Everhard to explore the remarkable life, theology, and ministry of Jonathan Edwards. We discuss how Edwards carried forward the theological convictions of the Protestant Reformation, his role in the First Great Awakening, and the story behind perhaps the most famous sermon in American history, Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God. We also examine a lesser-known and fascinating chapter of Edwards’ life: the controversy that ultimately led to his dismissal from the Northampton church after more than 20 years of ministry. Along the way, Matthew helps us understand Edwards not merely as a historical figure, but as a pastor, theologian, revival preacher, and thinker whose influence continues to shape Reformed Christianity today.Topics include:• Jonathan Edwards’ life and ministry• Edwards and the theology of the Reformation• The First Great Awakening• Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God• Revival and religious affections• Edwards’ ministry in Northampton• The controversy that led to his dismissal• Edwards’ continuing influence on Reformed theologyIf you enjoy conversations about theology, church history, the Reformation, and the people who shaped the Christian faith, subscribe for more conversations like this one.Links to Matthew Everhard   / @mattheweverhard   Jonathan Edwards Study Biblehttps://a.co/d/03nfBBOySupport the Show: http://www.buymeacoffee.com/Yourcalvi...https://www.Page50.com/YourCalvinistPage50 is a Marketing Company that is committed to helping you build your brand with truth, goodness, and beauty.
