A quarter of a million dollars gets poured on the floor, and the people closest to Jesus call it a waste. That moment in Matthew 26 and John 12 forces a question most of us spend years dodging: what do we protect as our “safety net,” and what would it look like to break the box and give Jesus all of it?
We walk through the buildup to the cross and why the timing matters. Jesus knows betrayal and crucifixion are close, yet He stops in Bethany at the home of Simon the leper, a man still carrying a label from a past condition. Then Mary brings an alabaster box of very precious ointment and pours it out in a way you cannot take back. We talk about controlled portions, costly worship, and how the “fragrance” is a picture of God filling every empty part of a life that finally surrenders.
The pushback gets real when the disciples criticize her, and we dig into the difference between what the world calls waste and what Jesus calls worthy. We also bring it into everyday life with stories about giving, releasing control, and what it means to help without trying to manage who deserves the gift.
The closing turns urgent and hopeful: eternity is one breath away, and every one of us owes a debt we cannot pay. Through a modern “gap insurance” story, we point straight to grace and the cross where Jesus stamps it “paid in full.” Subscribe, share this message with someone who needs hope, and leave a review that helps more people find it.
