Women in the Sandwich Generation Need Fun, Not Another To-Do List
Are you feeling squished in the middle of your life? Maybe you’re raising children, supporting aging parents, managing a career, keeping a household running, maintaining relationships—and somehow trying to look after yourself somewhere in the middle of it all. Welcome to the Sandwich Generation. But what if the answer isn’t another productivity hack, better time-management system or longer to-do list? What if you need more fun, joy, spontaneity and time for yourself? In this episode of The Finding Fun Experiment, Treena Innes talks with Kim O’Hara, founder of Delicious Life, about why women so often put their own joy last—and how small acts of self-kindness, fun and “deliciousness” can help you reconnect with yourself. Why women in the Sandwich Generation can feel trapped between everyone else’s needs Why your own joy and fun so often end up at the bottom of the list How being “in charge” can become part of your identity Kim describes a delicious life as making space for the things you know you want to do but continually put on the back burner. It might not be a major trip or dramatic life change. It could be riding your bike, reading a book, planting flowers, going to the beach, meeting a friend, singing in the car—or simply doing something because it sounds fun. The point is to stop waiting for the “right” time. What if you gave yourself permission to enjoy your life while you are still in the middle of it? Kim shares three practical starting points: 1. Take a breath. Stop. Inhale. Exhale. Give yourself a moment to reset. 2. Look up at the sky. Step outside your immediate responsibilities and get some perspective. Ask yourself: Does this really need to happen right now? 3. Reconsider your relationship with time. Look at your calendar and notice what is filling every available space. What could you delete, postpone, delegate or simply stop doing? Sometimes you simply need permission to make yourself part of your own life again. What have you been putting on the back burner? What would feel delicious to you right now? Where could you create a little more space in your calendar? And perhaps the biggest question: If not now, when? If you’re a woman in the Sandwich Generation, constantly taking care of everyone else and wondering where you went, this episode is your reminder that your joy matters too. You don’t have to escape your responsibilities to have more fun. You can find little pockets of joy, play, pleasure and spontaneity right in the middle of your real life. Because sometimes the way through the sandwich is to add a little more fun. And maybe a little more deliciousness too. Want more ideas for bringing fun, laughter, joy and vibrancy into your life? Why Letting Yourself Be Celebrated Could Help You Feel More Alive
Do you ever wonder, “How do I have more fun in my life?” or “How can I laugh more and feel more like myself again?” The answer might begin somewhere unexpected: Let yourself be celebrated. ❤️ If you’re the person who plans everyone else’s birthdays, organizes the gatherings, cheers everyone else on—and then says “Oh no, don’t make a fuss over me” when it’s your turn—you are not alone. In this episode of the Finding Fun Experiment Podcast, Treena Innes explores why so many women have a hard time being the centre of attention, receiving appreciation or allowing the people they love to celebrate them. And more importantly—what might we be missing when we continually say no? What if being celebrated isn’t about ego at all? What if it’s actually part of our Fun Health? ✨ Why being celebrated can create powerful feelings of connection, belonging and appreciation ✨ Why some women find it much easier to give than receive ✨ How decades of being the responsible one, the helper, the nurturer and the organizer can make receiving attention feel uncomfortable ✨ How constantly saying “Don’t make a fuss over me” may mean missing opportunities to feel seen, valued and connected The big idea? Being celebrated may be one more way to bring more fun, laughter, connection and aliveness into your life. When we make fun, laughter and play a must-have instead of a nice-to-have, life can feel brighter, lighter and healthier. Take one step toward allowing yourself to be celebrated this week. Let someone make a fuss over you. Celebrate a milestone you normally would have brushed aside. Plan your own birthday gathering. Or gather your favourite people together simply because you are alive and your life matters. Then notice how you feel afterward. A day later. A month later. Maybe even years later. You might discover that celebration isn't something you need to avoid—it might be one of the experiences that helps you reconnect with joy, laughter, belonging and the sparkly version of YOU. how to have more fun in my life • how to laugh more • how to enjoy life again • how to feel more alive • how to bring joy back into your life • fun and wellness • benefits of laughter and play • women and fun • finding yourself again • social connection and wellness • how to be happier in midlife …this episode is for you. *** Want more ideas for bringing fun, laughter, joy and vibrancy into your life? How to Have More Fun? Unblock Your “Fun Chakra.”
Have you ever wondered why having fun feels effortless during some seasons of life—and nearly impossible during others? Maybe you feel tired, stressed or disconnected. Perhaps you have slipped into survival mode and no longer feel like the vibrant, playful version of yourself you remember. But what if your struggle to experience joy has less to do with your schedule—and more to do with your energy? In this episode of the Finding Fun Experiment Podcast, Treena Innes sits down with Amy Lipton, Reiki Master, teacher, sound bath practitioner and spiritual mentor, to explore the surprising connection between your chakras and your ability to experience pleasure, creativity, playfulness and aliveness. Amy introduces us to the sacral chakra, often associated with creativity, pleasure, passion and joy—otherwise known in this conversation as your “fun zone.” Even when the chakra world feels a little “woo-woo,” the practices in this episode are simple: listen to your body, move your energy, spend time in nature and notice what makes you feel alive. Why adults become professional fun postponers How responsibility and conditioning can disconnect women from play The connection between the sacral chakra, creativity, pleasure and joy Amy Lipton is a Reiki Master, teacher, sound bath practitioner and spiritual mentor who loves helping people explore the lighter, more playful side of spiritual wellness. Why We Stop Playing and Having Fun With Friends—and How to Start Again
🎧 This listen if for you, if you want to have more fun with your friends. How many times have you said: “We really need to get together.” “Let’s plan something soon.” “I miss you—it has been way too long.” And then…nothing happens. Weeks become months. Months become years. One day, you are scrolling through old photos and remembering the dance parties, camping trips, beach bonfires, coffee dates, yoga classes, farmers’ markets, ballgames and belly laughs you used to share with your friends. You miss those moments—and you miss how they made you feel. Life gets busy. Calendars fill with work, errands, appointments and responsibilities. Time with friends can start to feel like a luxury instead of an essential part of our health and happiness. But growing older is not what steals our fun. It is allowing friendship, laughter and play to continuously fall to the bottom of the list that can make us feel old, disconnected and depleted. In this episode of the Finding Fun Experiment Podcast, Treena shares why spending time having fun with friends is one of the healthiest habits we can build—and three simple ways to make friendship fun a regular part of life again. Why friendship and fun deserve a protected place on your calendar Why we protect appointments like haircuts but easily cancel time with friends Three practical strategies to stop saying, “We need to get together,” and actually make it happen
