Abortion is Good, Actually with Sophie Nir

Abortion is good for sex. I SAID IT, pinecones. I’m proudly pro-abortion for lots of reasons, but one of them is that without abortion access, consenting to sex can mean consenting to pregnancy…and y’all, that can really, really ruin sex. And then there are all the other, bigger reasons: women being able to control their own bodies, direct their own lives, and not be forced to give birth when they don’t want to. That’s the real moral issue around abortion. Sophie Nir is the founder of the Abortion Positivity Project, a nonprofit working to move us beyond the apologetic, shame-filled language that still surrounds abortion—even among people who consider themselves pro-choice. Sophie joins me to talk about what happens when we stop treating abortion like something we have to reluctantly defend and start talking about it as healthcare, freedom, bodily autonomy, and a social good.
