Vivian Young is the Global Head Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs at JPMorganChase.
Vivian is of Filipina descent.
You are enough.
Self-confidence is having the courage to speak your truth.
Vivian felt invisible growing up.
Vivian was exposed to other cultures in college which helped her embraced her difference. Being a mom has given Vivian a different perspective. Her children are multi-cultural, and they embrace their Eastern European and Asian culture. They don’t see themselves as ½ of anything – they are full human beings and global citizens. Vivian also reads a note to her daughter:
Your grandparents and I came to this country in pursuit of opportunities.
You embody our hopes and dreams.
As your life unfolds before you, hear my voice to guide you…
Never lose the sparkle in your eye or the fire in your heart.
Surround yourself with people who spark joy.
Be kind.
Always be curious.
Don’t take things personally.
Never measure yourself with someone else’s yardstick.
Listen to your gut.
Know that if you can dream it, you can do it.
Your voice matters.
You are enough.
Vivian feels more liberated in her life and has the courage to speak her truth.
Everyone’s journey is different, and don’t measure yourself against others. Ask for help and surround yourself with people who bring joy to your life. Also, provide support and have empathy towards others.
