Description

<p>Episode #296 // <em>"Middle management is the engine room of performance. This is where you are closest to the work, and you can make some real inroads into performance improvement."</em></p><br><p>I produced a podcast episode over 4 years ago, titled “<a href="http://www.yourceomentor.com/episode74" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">The Curse of the Middle Manager</a>”. So, when I recently came across<a href="https://hbswk.hbs.edu/item/the-middle-manager-of-the-future-more-coaching-less-commanding?utm_source=SilverpopMailing&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=Daily%20Gazette%2020240206%20(1)" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> an HBR article</a> that signaled a resurgence in middle management roles, I figured it was time to take another look!</p><br><p>In many businesses, the role of the middle manager is by far the toughest. If you’re in that position now, you’ll know exactly what I mean.</p><br><p>You’re effectively the meat in the sandwich — the punching bag for both your team (who often don’t want to change the way they do things), and the senior leaders above you (who sometimes just want you to do as you’re told, without discussion).</p><br><p>Middle managers are often the most unloved (and <em>unrewarded</em>) people in an organization. But here’s the essential lens you need to look through: middle management is the petri dish in which senior leaders are identified, developed, and hatched.</p><br><p>I’m dedicating today’s episode to the middle manager, so that you can not just learn how to survive the cauldron, but to grow, thrive, and move onto bigger and better things!</p><br><p><strong><em>No Bullsh!t Leadership </em>podcast<em>:</em></strong></p><p><a href="http://www.yourceomentor.com/episode74" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ep.74: The Curse of the Middle Manager</a></p><p><a href="http://www.yourceomentor.com/episode267" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ep.267: Management vs Leadership</a></p><p><a href="http://www.yourceomentor.com/episode53" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ep.53: Don’t Overdo Collaboration</a></p><br><p><strong><em>HBR Working Knowledge </em>article<em>:</em></strong></p><p><a href="https://hbswk.hbs.edu/item/the-middle-manager-of-the-future-more-coaching-less-commanding?utm_source=SilverpopMailing&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=Daily%20Gazette%2020240206%20(1)" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">The Middle Manager of the Future: More Coaching, Less Commanding</a></p><br><p><strong><em>Clay Christensen </em>books<em>:</em></strong></p><p><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Innovators-Dilemma-Technologies-Management-Innovation/dp/1633691780/ref=sr_1_1?crid=15RICYV7QMBZ4&amp;dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.YqrO3k-5X2CpBfkaGgbbOfmq2yQsM-FrRlHAnU0IKRU34bTy3ICw3l5BlEvzBzdmi0V_GUH8bry-WFIuz5PCADT2_4zoioOAN8kNfieRK3iaUn-O2mZdlimOq-AhRoM3IDvvU7Yl0XBb5UNREiaqiDBf5aMu0-WyokdahpSMGZSzZsGp_aSs47z61ogHd2OXTARJLczu5Jj4nPQm776OHdcR8PAJGkvNQfzqQ2zmaf4.CbRy6xy3v9G5X1TaMG9P2Rhp4iaTrPoSb_YlDVhBciU&amp;dib_tag=se&amp;keywords=the+innovators+dilemma&amp;qid=1713881680&amp;sprefix=the+innovators+dilemma,aps,90&amp;sr=8-1" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">The Innovator’s Dilemma</a></p><p><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Innovators-Solution-Creating-Sustaining-Successful/dp/1422196577/ref=bmx_dp_n13r43tn_d_sccl_3_3/138-3666690-1887415?pd_rd_w=XS2je&amp;content-id=amzn1.sym.628e3119-8afd-4af2-be6b-18415b51e649&amp;pf_rd_p=628e3119-8afd-4af2-be6b-18415b51e649&amp;pf_rd_r=G0RXSHZ6FBA56SPT0R8S&amp;pd_rd_wg=eTHW4&amp;pd_rd_r=bc6b353c-fac7-4d9d-98e5-f53ba84bb5c6&amp;pd_rd_i=1422196577&amp;psc=1" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">The Innovator’s Solution</a></p><p><br></p><br /><hr><p style='color:grey; font-size:0.75em;'> Hosted on Acast.
