The Powerful Story Behind Erin's Law, with Erin Merryn
Child sexual abuse is far more common than most parents realize: 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused by age 18. But there's hope. In one of the most powerful episodes I've recorded, I sit down with childhood sexual abuse survivor and activist Erin Merryn, who has spent 15 years getting Erin's Law passed in 38 states. This groundbreaking legislation requires K-12 schools to teach personal body safety education - giving children the language and knowledge to "get away and tell today." Erin shares her journey from survivor to advocate, the real reasons some states resist this life-saving education, and the incredible stories of other children whose lives have been changed (and saved) by learning this law. In This Episode: What Erin's Law is and why it's being passed state-by-state across America (and internationally) The difference between "personal body safety education" and sex education Statistics, such as "90% of child sexual abuse is committed by someone the child knows and trusts, NOT strangers" How to access FREE curriculum and resources through the Erin's Law Foundation What parents & supporters can do right now to support this legislation in the remaining 12 states About Erin Merryn: Erin Merryn is an author, activist, and survivor who has dedicated her life to protecting children from sexual abuse. Erin's Law has passed in 38 states, Ontario (Canada), and a state in India. She's currently working on a documentary following her legislative journey, expected to release in 2027. Anxiety, ADHD & Executive Functioning: Why "Just Try Harder" Isn't Working
If you've ever felt lazy, unmotivated, or like you just can't get it together, this episode is for you. In this conversation, I'm breaking down why the problem usually isn't discipline - it's executive functioning, nervous system overload, and using the wrong tools for how your brain actually works. This episode is especially helpful if you live with anxiety, ADHD, chronic stress, or the familiar thought of "I know what I need to do but I can't start." In this episode, you'll learn: What executive functioning really is and why you get overwhelmed How anxiety and ADHD impact organization, focus, and follow-through Why "just try harder" often backfires The difference between avoidance when it comes to boring tasks vs. anxiety Simple strategies to build systems that support how your brain works There's 4 key areas to focus on: Executive function & focus Organization & time management Nervous system regulation Self-compassion FOLLOW host: @loristreator my therapy practice: @solairetherapy _*]:min-w-0"> Support the podcast with these 2 things: Share it with one friend who needs to hear this Leave a 5-star review and tell me your biggest aha-moment from today _*]:min-w-0"> Your support helps more women find their way here. 🎧 Subscribe now and tune in weekly for more real-life conversations about mental health. Reframing What You Want: How To Build Calm & Confidence (Because Less Anxiety Isn't The Goal)
In this first episode of the new year, I'm going to challenge the way you talk about your struggles... and offer a powerful reframe that can change how you approach anxiety, stress, confidence, and personal growth. Instead of obsessing over what you want less of (anxiety, overthinking, emotional eating, perfectionism, etc), this episode helps you get clear on what you're actually wanting; things like calm, confidence, trust, and self-assurance. Because less anxiety isn't the destination. Calm and confidence are. Anxiety is just the message that something is going on. In this episode, you'll learn: Why focusing on "less anxiety" keeps you stuck in the problem How over-identifying with an issue or the thing you don't like becomes a trap A simple 3-step reframe to shift from problem-focused thinking to growth-focused thinking Real examples using anxiety, overthinking, perfectionism, finances, and emotional eating This episode is perfect for anyone entering a new year feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or frustrated with the things in life thaat are causing stress. This is for you if you're ready to stop asking "How do I make this go away?" and start asking "What am I really rying to accomplish here?" Why Rest Feels Scary and Why Women Have a Hard Time Slowing Down
If the thought of taking a break makes you anxious, you're not alone. Let's talk about why so many women (and men) feel like everything will fall apart the moment they stop moving. In this episode, I'm unpacking three reasons why rest feels terrifying - from nervous system's addiction to urgency to the fear that your worth is tied to your output. More importantly, I want you to havepractical ways to start retraining your brain to trust yourself to rest. In This Episode, You'll Learn: The 3 reasons stillness feels scary How your nervous system gets addicted to urgency and constant motion Why high achievers tie their identity to productivity How to teach your nervous system that stillness is safe, not a threat Do any (or all!) of these resonate?: "If I slow down, will everything fall apart?" "Do people think I'm slacking if I'm not constantly achieving?" "Who am I if I'm not the doer or the fixer?" If these thoughts sound familiar, this episode will help you understand why rest isn't the opposite of success... it's what sustains it.
