One of my favorite Austria-based podcasters recently took a break, and guess what happened: it only heightened my anticipation for the next episode.

I found myself checking the feed regularly, never forgetting about the show. This experience reaffirmed my belief that if you keep your listeners in the loop and communicate what's happening, they won't drop off. Your loyal fans will be eagerly waiting for your return.

So, this is my invitation to you: especially now, when summer is here and (if you are a busy parent like me) school routines are on hold, don't stress about not having a new episode every week.

Here's why taking breaks can be beneficial for your podcast:

The Benefits of Taking Scheduled Breaks

Prevent Burnout: Continuous content creation can lead to burnout, diminishing the passion and creativity that initially drove you. Breaks allow you to recharge, ensuring that when you return, you're refreshed and full of new ideas.

Maintain Quality: When you prioritize quality over quantity, your listeners will appreciate it. Rushing episodes just to meet a weekly schedule can harm your brand more than it helps. Your audience values well-thought-out, engaging content.

Build Anticipation: Just like with my Austrian podcaster experience, your listeners will eagerly await your return if they know when to expect it. Communicate clearly about your break and return dates to keep them engaged.

Explore Your Back Catalogue: A break is a perfect time for your audience to explore episodes they may have missed. Encourage them to dive into your back catalogue and rediscover valuable content.

Plan and Record in Advance: If you prefer, you can plan smartly and record months in advance. This way, you'll always have new episodes lined up for release without the constant pressure of weekly production.

Communicate with Your Audience

Transparency is key. Let your listeners know about your break plans and what they can expect. Share updates through your podcast, social media, and newsletter. Keeping them informed builds trust and keeps your audience loyal.

To lead by example, PODCASTING WITH IMPACT will take a well-deserved summer break. There won't be any new episodes airing for July and August. I invite you to enjoy browsing through our back catalogue and to explore episodes you may have missed. I will be back with lots of beautiful, inspiring and super helpful new episodes for you in August.

Listen to my short signing-off message, featuring the beautiful voices of my three kids, and let's look forward to an exciting return after a refreshing summer break.

Enjoy your summer!
