Jesus talks about money more than anything else in the Gospels. 11 of his 39 parables are about finances as he talks about it more than heaven and hell combined. But why is that? Is it because Jesus cares so much about money? No. It's because he knows we care so much about money. Jesus wants to free us from the grip of money so we can have it without it having us. The truth is, money is not the root of all evil, but the love of it is (1 Timothy 6:10). This verse seems to depict money as being an innocent object. But if that's the case then why does Jesus warn us against riches and the pursuit of more so much? He warns us because money is often not an innocent object as much as it is a rival god that is fighting for the trust in our hearts. Money will promise many things like security, significance, identity and freedom. But friends only Jesus Christ can give us those things! It's time to be freed from the grip finances has on so many of our lives.
