Episode 243 Series: On the Mission Field - 32 In the Basque Country of northern Spain, Missionary Daniel Darling and his family are faithfully serving the Lord. Saved at the age of four, Daniel Darling went on a missions trip to Bilbao, Spain as a young married man. He returned to the states, but the Lord was already hard at work on his heart about returning there to serve. He and his family obeyed the Lord and are now living in southern France near the Spanish border of Basque Country. There are many cultural and religious elements that play into his work of sharing the gospel; some elements are significant barriers to salvation while others are might be considered mere inconveniences. One thing is consistent, however: there are many souls in that country that, despite the permeation of Catholicism into almost all areas of life, have no idea what the church really is and how Jesus' sacrifice on the cross made full payment for sin. Daniel's work there seeks to change that. Join us as we learn about his mission field and the needs thereof, and what God is doing to draw lost men to Him through the Darling Family's obedience to Him. Episode 242 Missionary Marco joins us on this episode of the Removing Barriers Podcast to discuss John Perkins, a pastor described at the time of his death as one of America's unsung heroes for having sought to heal the scourge of racism through the ministry of the church. He was raised by his grandmother after the death of his mother and the abandonment of his father and came to faith as an adult, at the invitation of his son. From that point on, having experienced overt racism firsthand and making the Christlike decision to forgive, Perkins threw all of himself into ministering to the people around him. He moved out of the affluent area he was living in to a less desirable "ghetto" area. All aspects of his ministry involved real action to combat socio-economic issues that accompany the spiritual issues the people faced. At first glance and in light of recent trends, we may be tempted to dismiss his work as the social gospel or woke theology, but Missionary Marco argues that our churches may be able to learn a thing or two about missions from Perkins, and that Christians should be challenged to give more of themselves to the Great Commission. Though there are certain aspects of Perkins' theology that Missionary Marco would not agree with, he joins us to help shed more light on this relatively unknown minister and the good he's done to address some of the ugly realities in U.S. race relations today. In this episode, we continue in the How Were Your Barriers Removed series with an interview of Simon Chu to hear how God saved him. Born in Hong Kong but raised in the U.S. after living in Nigeria for a year, he grew up in a nonreligious home with no Christian witness. His father was agnostic and his mother followed Buddhism. Though friends in his childhood professed to be Christians, their lives gradually suggested otherwise and provided no real witness to the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. In spite of this, the Lord had already been working in his heart, and eternity was a persistent question at the back of his mind. Join us and hear how God used imperfect people using imperfect evangelism efforts to bring Simon to a saving knowledge of Christ, and how God changed him into a faithful soulwinner as well. Episode 239 Bonkers - 18 Muslims try to shut down Christian evangelism, a former lieutenant governor commits murder-suicide, scientists just can't let go of millions of years despite evidence, and a sad generational case in Trinidad all remind us of the desperate need for evangelism and ministry to the lost all across the globe. Political and social commentary can be made one way or the other, but Jesus Christ and Him crucified is the only truth that can defeat Islam, nihilism, evolution and millions of years, and the destructive power of sin. He was buried and was raised on the third day, and He has promised that whosoever believes in Him has eternal life. So when we talk to our family, friends, and neighbors about His power to save, we can share real hope and true help. Sometimes it results in hard truths that are counter to our current culture; we can expect to be ignored, mocked, or perhaps even attacked for it, but we simply cannot leave the world to itself without the Savior. The least we can do is try to reach them with the gospel because this world has gone bonkers.
