We discuss the importance of centering voices from the margins and share some of the cringeworthy ways well-meaning folks sometimes miss the mark - from comparing transgender identities to drag performances to equating Asian representation with buying from a Chinese restaurant. We also wrestle with the tensions that arise when privileged people speak out about oppression in ways that feel performative or self-serving, and explore how we can move towards true solidarity and collective liberation. A major theme of our conversation is the need to go beyond pursuing "justice" within oppressive systems, and instead work towards deep, holistic transformation on both an individual and societal level.
