Episode 3: Getting Older and Getting Active
Hosted by JOYs Michelle Sheppard, the This Girl Can Victoria podcast empowers LGBTQIA+ female, femme and non-binary people to get active. Many things change as you get older – and studies have shown, many of the more difficult changes are linked to an inactive lifestyle.   On Episode 3, Michelle chats to This Girl Can Ambassador, Michelle! (Great name) When Michelle began her transition, the hormone treatment meant she put on weight – but despite worrying about how she looked in her swimmers, she hit the pool – and the self-proclaimed “Grandma boogie-boarder” was amazed by the support she got.   Then, later Michelle is joined by Peta Murray. Peta runs an Elders Dance Group – a chance for older LGBTQIA+ people to get together, make friends, and get active in a less conventional way.  They chat about the importance of groups such as this – and how it’s become a safe place for older LGBTQIA+ people to get active and make friends.  At the end of each episode, Michelle is joined by James Lolicato – co-founder of Proud2Play as well as the CEO of Pride Cup. James and Michelle will breakdown the topics discussed in the episode – and will provide tips on how YOU can get active.
