What Does It Actually Mean to Feel Safe?
This episode breaks down what it actually means to feel safe when you have spent years creating safety through control, preparation, independence, achievement, and anticipating what could go wrong. I talk about how our brains and bodies can learn to brace for life, why calm and uncertainty can sometimes feel uncomfortable, and why knowing you are safe is different from actually feeling safe. I walk through safety in the body, mind and emotions, relationship with yourself, relationships and communication, belonging and community, and faith. The goal is not to create a life where nothing difficult happens, but to build the self-trust, healthy connection, emotional capacity, and faith to recognize the difference between something that requires protection and something that simply requires us to stay present through discomfort, vulnerability, or uncertainty.
