Resident Evil (2002) is dumb fun, but does that make it a good Resident Evil movie?
We’re heading back to the early 2000s to revisit Paul W.S. Anderson’s video game adaptation, and we’ve got some thoughts. Between the Umbrella Corporation, the Red Queen, zombie dogs, and that absolutely brutal laser hallway, there’s plenty to talk about. But for a movie based on a franchise known for its characters, puzzles, and survival horror, how much does this one actually get right?
Jen goes in completely blind, bringing some fresh reactions to the zombie chaos, questionable movie logic, and a few moments that are unintentionally hilarious. Meanwhile, we get into what makes this movie such a time capsule of early 2000s action horror and whether being entertaining is enough to make up for straying so far from the games.
So, does Resident Evil deserve its place in video game movie history, or is it just a guilty pleasure with a familiar name slapped on it?
Listen now, then tell us: should video game movies stick to the source material, or is a good movie all that matters?
