When a movie is this iconic, it’s easy to quote it and never really look at what’s on the screen. We hit play on Ghostbusters (1984) and try to answer a tougher question: does it still work in 2026, or are we just running on nostalgia and a perfect theme song?
We talk through why the original Ghostbusters remains a comfort watch and a legit piece of smart blockbuster craft. The mix of paranormal horror, dry comedy, and fast moving plot still clicks, and the “science” sells itself through confident techno babble, proton packs, containment units, and all. We also get into the practical effects that keep aging well, from the haunted library to Slimer’s quick but lasting impact, and of course the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man turning the finale into a sticky disaster.
Then we bring modern eyes to the characters and the vibe. Peter Venkman reads very differently now, and we unpack what 80s comedies treated as romantic persistence versus what feels like workplace creepiness today. We also debate Winston’s late arrival, the EPA guy as a low key big bad, Rick Moranis as an all time scared pipsqueak, and why Sigourney Weaver brings gravity to everything she touches.
If you love movie rewatch podcasts, 80s comedy, Ghostbusters lore, or film analysis that’s equal parts jokes and critique, this one’s for you. Subscribe, share the episode with a fellow Ghostbusters fan, and leave us a five star review so we know it’s a juicy one.
