Description

Show Notes: Is Home an Oasis? You can build a successful company, become a strong leader, make good money, create more freedom, and still be disconnected from the people and places that matter most. In this episode of The TriMetric Roadmap Podcast, Scott Landis and Jeff Jacob finish the Life Quality series with the final factor: Home & Belonging. The conversation centers around a simple question: Are the people closest to you getting the best of you, or the leftovers? Scott and Jeff talk about how home can quietly become another place where founders carry responsibility. They provide, solve problems, lead, fix things, and take care of everyone else. But providing is not the same as being present. Home & Belonging is about whether the founder has a place where they feel known, safe, connected, accepted, and able to exhale. Jeff shares one early warning sign: what are you looking forward to when the workday ends? Are you excited to go home and connect with the people you love, or are you looking for ways to avoid home through work, the gym, the bar, television, or other distractions? Scott expands the conversation into what he calls relationship intelligence. Every person has needs for certainty, variety, significance, and connection. The important question is not whether those needs will be met, but how and where we choose to meet them. That matters especially in marriage. When important emotional needs are consistently being met somewhere outside the closest relationship, it may be a signal that something needs attention at home. Scott also shares the story of a highly successful executive whose greatest regret was not paying attention to Life Quality sooner. He had success, money, status, and significance through work, but later realized that his family did not experience the same sense of connection he thought he was providing. That story became an important reason Life Quality is included in the TriMetric system. Because what gets measured gets noticed. Jeff also talks about the physical environment of home. A high Home & Belonging score is not only about relationships. It is also about whether your home feels like an oasis or another source of stress. Founders spend much of their lives carrying responsibility. Home should include spaces and relationships where the founder does not always have to perform. The episode closes with practical examples from Scott and Jeff’s own Life Quality assessments. Scott identified the need for more intentional friendship outside of work. Jeff identified more intentional time with his wife and daughters. Both were able to turn those insights into simple rhythms on the calendar.
