Description
Anti-Literacy laws in many slave states before and during the American Civil War affected African-Americans. South Carolina passed the first law prohibiting the teaching of African-Americans to read and write. Surprisingly Arkansas, Kentucky, Maryland and Tennessee were the only Slave States that did not enact legal prohibition on educating African-Americans. Northern states also placed restrictions on the education of African-Americans. Then there are just weird standout state laws affecting American citizens. Connecticut state law prohibits people from playing Scrabble, while waiting for a politician to speak. LOL
